Exit Interview - June 2019 - IT 11 - Kevin

1. Which assignments did you enjoy and why?
My favourite assignments throughout the course was Premiere Pro and Photoshop. These two assignments allowed me to put my creativity on display. I also enjoyed assignments that involved building such as Sketchup and Minecraft.

2. Which assignments did you struggle with and why?
The only assignments that I struggled with were Raft. I am generally bad at survival games, but playing the game has allowed me to improve my abilities to survive.

3. What should your report card comment say?
Kevin is a hardworking student that always hands in his assignment to the best of his ability. He consistently seeks assistance when needed and hands in his assignments on time.

BUILD SOMETHING NEW

Be specific with your answers in relation to the game itself.

1. What NEW things did you build today? [IMAGE]
A couple of items that I built today were a second floor, a collection net, and a scarecrow!

2. How will these NEW things help you play the game (TIPS&TRICKS)?
These items will benefit me in many ways. The second floor will allow me to elevate myself to safety. I can also build and store more items on that second floor without having to worry about the shark. The collection net will collect debris for me so I don't have to always use my plastic hook, and the scarecrow will allow me to scare away any crows from my crops.

3. What strategies are you going to try to focus on tomorrow?
Some strategies that I'm going to focus on is managing to upgrade more of my items. At the time, I have no upgrades, though I have a research table! I will look into the items I am able to upgrade.

4. Add a picture of your raft. (include a caption)
Explain why you built the raft the way you did.

This is my raft at the end of day 3. It has a second floor to allow me to elevate myself to safety (especially during night time where I am having trouble seeing). I am continuing to expand my raft so sharks cannot break down any of the items that I built.

Game Journalism Day 4 - IT 11 - Kevin

Raft Play Day 4

- If you were to start over
From memory...layout the first 10 steps

1. Collect as much debris in the ocean.

2. When enough resources, build both a simple grill and a water purifier as those two will ensure your survival. Also, build a building hammer as you can expand your raft. These three items are what you need at the beginning.

3. Collect debris once again. Again, once enough resources, build a fishing rod and a cup.

4. Occasionally fish and collect water ONLY when you're low on health. Other than that, CONTINUE to collect debris.

5. Create essential items such as a crop plot to grow food. This will allow another food source other than fishing.

6. Make a sail and a paddle to allow movement.

7. Create a wooden spear so you can fight off the shark, and potentially get food from it.

8. Create a scarecrow to get rid of any birds getting into your crops

9. Create a second floor, and add walls to it. By doing so, you can store more stuff onto that floor and not risk the shark biting that platform off.

10. Continue to upgrade items to its fullest.
2. What is the best tool to make for survival? (IMAGE)

Although you start off with this item, the hook is the MOST essential item in the game. It allows you to collect debris, which you will need to build other essential items such as the simple grill, and water purifier.

3.  Your raft to date (IMAGE). What is the best feature on your raft?
This is my raft to date. The best feature on my raft is definitely the second story. It allows me to elevate myself to safety whenever I need it.

Game Journalism Day 4 - Upgrades - IT 11 - Kevin

Upgraded Axe

The upgraded version of the metal axe is much more efficient when comparing to the regular axe. It can cut trees much faster, and at the same time lasts longer.
Upgraded Crop Plot

The upgraded version of the crop plot allows me to expand the number of crops I am able to plant.
Upgraded Hook

The upgraded version of the plastic hook allows me to throw my items further.
Upgraded Storage

The upgraded version of the storage system allows me to store more items.
Upgraded Fishing Rod

The upgraded version of the fishing rod is more durable and allows me to catch fish for a longer period of time.
My Raft!

This is my final raft for day 4. I was quite disappointed as I couldn't build walls to make it more like a house. That was my objective, but I will definitely make sure that I will do that next time I play.

Game Journalism Day 2 - Play Day - IT 11 - Kevin

Raft Play Day 2

What specifically did you do?
On my second day on Raft, I began to expand my raft and created items that will further benefit me as I go on. I created things such as a water purifier and a simple grill to help feed myself and prevent starvation/thirst. I also created items such as a paddle and a sail to help me move around to different areas in the game.

What did you learn about how to play the game?
I learned that you need to have wooden planks in order to ignite items such as the water purifier and a simple grill. I also learned that you can get the shark off your raft by creating a wooden spear and stabbing it five times.

What strategies are you going to try and focus on tomorrow?
I am going to try and expand my raft on the third day. So far I only have wooden foundations with items placed on top of it. What I want to do is create walls, and possibly another floor for my raft.

A picture of my raft

This is my raft. If you compare this picture to the previous photo I had posted, you can see that I have expanded my raft by adding more wooden foundations. By doing so, I had more freedom of movement on my raft. I also added items such as a sail to help move my raft. The staircase was to get onto an island.
